  27.      UFO LANDING WAS KEPT SECRET, SAYS EX-DEFENCE CHIEF

  30. A series of chilling encounters with alien spacecraft have
  31. been covered up, claims Britain's former military top gun.
  32.   Lord Hill-Norton is convinced the Defence Ministry is
  33. hiding the fact that a UFO landed in Britain. The former
  34. Chief of the Defence Staff said: "The Ministry has doggedly
  35. denied that anything untoward happened and I simply don't
  36. believe them.
  37.   "Someone is sitting on information that should be in the
  38. public domain."
  39.   His claims centre on bizarre incidents at RAF Woodbridge
  40. in Suffolk, where American airmen claim to have seen UFOs.
  41.   The People has seen a top-secret report by American Lt
  42. Colonel Charles Halt which confirms sightings of UFOs
  43. "involving an intelligence which didn't originate on earth".
  44.   And former US military intelligence officer Clifford Stone
  45. claims that the USA, NATO and Russia have long exchanged
  46. details of similar incidents under the code name Operation
  47. Moondust.

  50.   It centers on the mysterious events of December 27, 1980,
  51. when radar operators at RAF Watton, near Norwich, picked up
  52. an unusual blip.
  53.   As RAF Phantom jets closed on the object, pilots reported
  54. seeing intense, bright lights in the sky.
  55.   Former radar operator Mal Scurrah said: "As the Phantoms
  56. got close the hovering object shot upwards at phenomenal
  57. speed - monitored at more than 1,000mph."
  58.   At RAF Woodbridge, airman John Burroughs and sergeant Jim
  59. Penniston investigated a dazzling fire in nearby Rendlesham
  60. Forest.
  61.   "The air was filled with electricity and we saw an object
  62. about the size of a tank," said Penniston.
  63.   "It was triangular, moulded of black glass and had symbols
  64. on it. Suddenly it shot off faster that any aircraft I have
  65. ever observed."
  66.   Next night the object returned and base deputy commander
  67. Lt Col Halt went to investigate.
  68.   He said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It looked
  69. like the rising sun with a black pulsating center. It
  70. appeared to be dripping molten metal."

  79. When a former Chief of the Defence Staff, no less, claims that the U.K. and
  80. the U.S. governments are engaged in an orchestrated cover up of the UFO
  81. phenomenon, we should perhaps take a moment to reflect on the significance
  82. and repercussions of this claim.

  89. this alleged "Operation Moondust" would be welcomed.
